Closing Barclays business account:
process started last August, still ongoing, multiple 'thank you for taking the time and trouble to share your disappointment' letters, ridiculous bank charges grudgingly withdrawn.
Closing Barclays personal account:

Sent a 12-point letter to Barclays last week regarding the non-closure of my business account, and their enterprising attempt to stiff me for overdraft charges incurred as a result of keeping the account open and charging me for sending statements.
On Saturday, I received a statement indicating that the bank charges had been reversed. No letter, o no: just a statement.
Today, I am in receipt of a letter beginning, "Thank you for taking the time and trouble to share your disappointment about the service you have received from Barclays."
Lovely. I shall put it with the others.
American Edit has kept me warm on a very chilly evening. I do like remixes (oooh, sorry, must call 'em mash-ups these days) with a sense of humour.
Hmm ... someone must'vemated mashed Goldfrapp and ZZ Top ...

Dear Barclays ...
Thursday, December 1st, 2005 01:12 pm... how I long for the day when I can close down the account that used to be my father's. Because, really, it's not necessary to keep me on the phone for 30 mins and try to sell me insurance / credit cards / loans / payment protection etc when all I am requesting is an overdraft extension to cover the period between Plymouth City Council taking some money* and Plymouth City Council paying it all back.
In retrospect, it would probably have been easier just to leave it as an unauthorised overdraft.
*my fault, as cancelling standing orders was low on my list of priorities after my father's death.

March 1st, following news of Paid Employment: ring Barclays to transfer some money from business account to FirstDirect
March 6th, following discovery of Massive Overdraft on FirstDirect account: ring Barclays to enquire as to whereabouts of said money.
It hasn't gone across and they've no record of any call. They are transferring the money for me again, but it won't be there until Thursday.
I am looking at my BT bill. I can see the call: 1st March, 13:54, 2 minutes and 42 seconds. Not to mention my ticking it off on my 'to do' list, surely Evidence of a sort.
This is not how I was planning to spend my last afternoon of freedom, pre-Employment.
They're "very sorry".
I have threatened to take my business elsewhere. Any recs?
