*You* tell them ...

I am having a difference of opinion with Avnet, my otherwise-wondrous ISP.

They claim that they have moved my web space from server to server but it is still OK: "I can see it fine" are their exact words.

I contend that they have lost it. (And I have some whiny emails to back me up.)

If you can spare a moment to check ...

The requested URL /home/amaranth/BSFA/ was not found on this server.

Could be a delayed DNS update or something ... I guess (I can pull more random buzzwords out of thin air if you'd like!)

I get a 404 for both.

Actually, no I can't see the BSFA site either. It was cached.

Is avnet.co.uk supposed to take me to a site for aviators?

I can't see anything here. From here, the DNS details for www.avnet.co.uk resolves as sites.aviators.net [193.203.240.75]. Not sure if that's any help.

Web access can be a bit flaky here of an afternoon, but I can see most other things, except for avnet.

Are these two sites supposed to be different?

Are you sure it isn't just DNS taknig its time to update? It usually takes around 48 hours unless you have reduced the update time beforehand.

I think that www.bsfa.co.uk is actually hosted by someone different (a customer of Inweb, probably, according to a traceroute I just did) , and has a proxy redirect to the avnet.co.uk site, hence the different IP addresses.

I doubt it's a DNS problem, I think it's more likely that someone has screwed up their Apache configuration file -- I can't get to any website at http://www.avnet.co.uk/home/, having searched for a few in Google.

Doing a WHOIS search on avnet.co.uk suggests that avnet aren't at that address.

I clicked the wrong button on the second question. I meant to answer "no" (just like the first).

I'm sorry to be the one who has to break this to you, my love, but it is apparent that your life has been deleted, and that you no longer exist.

In which case, can I have your i-Pod?

Speaking as a web developer (http://www.webhorus.net), I think avnet have, and apologies for the technical term here, fucked up.

They may be correct in saying that they have simply moved your site to another server, but that server clearly isn't visible from the outside world. It's not uncommon for internal and external routings to be different, so the fact that they can see it means nothing.

I get a 404 for the personal site and "The requested URL /home/amaranth/BSFA/ was not found on this server." for the bsfa site.

Which is odd, I think.
