Good Fizz Guide

Further to last week's poll on Weird Shopping Experiences, I can now -- post delivery of [livejournal.com profile] mmcpoland's birthday present -- highly recommend both Quaff (who didn't have the item in stock, but phoned around to locate a bottle, went online and printed me a map, and were generally Very Nice) and Toast, who did have a bottle or two in stock (plus Gosset candles!) and have the most marvellously decadent decor.

Quaff are especially good for deals on cases. Toast are good for range, gift-packaging and shiny black counters. Both are in Hove, but have online shops, and both have helpful, friendly, sympathetic and charming staff.

vile vile Amazon

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008 10:55 am
5th Aug: ordered EEEEEE, purple Linuxy EEEEEEEEEEE, for delivery 12th Aug.
12th Aug: after waiting in all morning: received email indicating that delivery had been delayed to 19th Aug.
19th Aug: wake early full of glEEEEEE.
- Check order: not despatched: est. delivery date still 19th Aug.
- Check item page. 'in stock, despatched by ADMI'.
- Contact ADMI who have no record of me.
- Contact Amazon, who put me on hold for ages, talk to me in American accents and tell me that my order is being fulfilled by another supplier and will not be despatched for another 1-3 weeks.
- Express my displeasure at poor communication + inflexibility of Amazon order system (you would think preorders might be assigned to suppliers who actually stock the item, no?).
- Cancel Amazon order. With prejudice. With a stroppy little note.
- Order EEEEEEEEE from ADMI, direct.
- wait. Not patiently. Until at least tomorrow.
[Poll #1240977]
Good online shopping experience:
Amazon. On Saturday I received a parcel that only contained 2 of the 3 items I'd ordered. I emailed them on Monday morning: within two hours I'd had an emailed apology and a new order (at no charge) had been raised for the missing item.

BAD online shopping experience:
Tesco. They were generally very reliable when I was in L__sham and B___ Hill. Last week I put in an order for a delivery to Tonbridge, for Friday morning. On Friday morning they phoned to say the van had broken down, could we reschedule? 20 minutes on hold, and yes, we could. I was unimpressed.

I've just had another call* -- the driver is 'sorry to have missed me'. WTF? [livejournal.com profile] swisstone has been in all day. I have expressed this to them. They will be trying again. And they had better succeed or else.

*Good thing my phone, switched to silent as usual at werk, was in my hand at the time
We received the new GoodGifts catalogue the other day. It's full of fab things (and if anyone feels like getting me a gift for any reason, the list below is a good starting point!)

They've added a wishlist option, too, though it works rather oddly: a PDF of selected items (from a selection that doesn't quite match the actual catalogue) and a wishlist reference -- WL1369 -- to be typed in online order form's comments box, or quoted on a phone order).

I'm off to Plymouth tomorrow, and taking the catalogue with me -- hopefully I can persuade my sister that I'd rather have something ethical than more Tat.*
