Balancing

Friday, August 8th, 2008 03:43 pm
BAD:
1. it's August and I'm about to put the heating on. August. FFS.
2. the hounds of hell (or possibly some neighbouring hounds) are extremely agitated today. Perhaps it is frostbite.

GOOD:
1. dinner and film (The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor: disengage brain) with [livejournal.com profile] ladymoonray tonight.
2. swimming 500m at lunchtime has jolted my creativity into 'forward' mode again.

Balancy

The property inspector, due at 8am this morning, 'forgot' until I phoned up (having spoken to the answerphone twice) at 9am: but all my housewerk and cat-vacuuming did not go to waste, and it's done for another three months.

The eBay seller who has been putting me off with excuses for non-arrival of item did this for so long that the 'report non-received item' and 'paypal refund' periods have expired: but at least I can stop chasing now (and it's not very much of a financial loss, and I did manage to buy an identical item without hassle).

The battery in my car key ran down between my getting out of the car at Tesco and breaking back into it: but no one in the Tesco carpark gave a damn that I was Stealing A Car (and I've had the battery replaced by the nice chap at Halfords).

My American colleague has been reviewing the wrong version of the screencasts: but this gives me some leeway re: acting on his feedback.

I have to go to Plymouth this weekend: but I might get a couple of hours on the beach. (And it's only Sat lunchtime til Sun afternoon.)

Balancing Act

Monday, August 6th, 2007 02:00 pm
* The post-release party (all expenses paid by company) took place in my absence: but the release happened at last!
* The person dealing with my complaint re financial advisor, who promised to contact me within four weeks and didn't, is now out of the office until 28th August: but this gave me free rein to escalate it to management.
* In my absence, the department has been reorganised and I have been somewhat 'demoted': but I won't have to sit through 5-hour Tech Leadership Team meetings any more.
* I am very very broke this month: but I have enough capacity on two interest-free credit cards to move other CC balances to those cards, thus not haemorrhaging interest for the next 8 or 9 months.
* I am not sure I understood the end of Brasyl: but I enjoyed it very much all the same.
* Nothing has changed for the better, werkwise, in my absence: but Trying Colleague is on holiday for two weeks.
* No one has bought my flat yet: but ... erm ... they probably will. Yes.
* It was grey and cold and rainy this morning: but it's not as though I was doing anything except coming to werk.

ETA:
* The person who's failing to sort out a lost eBay item (I bought it, it never arrived) is mysteriously silent: but I can now leave richly-deserved negative feedback, and complain to eBay / PayPal with a clear conscience (it's been two months) and should actually get a refund.
