Sam in his new home

Sam and Shiva are esconced in their new home, Chez [livejournal.com profile] residentevil666. (There has been some Bad Language.)

We went to pick them up on Saturday afternoon. I'd asked R to keep them indoors, and starved, but when I rang to say we were en route, she told me that Shiva'd gone missing -- hadn't been seen all day.

Leaving [livejournal.com profile] ladymoonray to herd children, I went out into the garden and called My Cat. And My Cat turned up within five minutes. Bwa ha ha ha ha.

"I did call her," said R, looking quite put out.

"Aha, but you are an Evil Incomer and she doesn't like you," I just about didn't say.

Fond farewells, in varying degrees, were made to the cats. (Tim not at all bothered, Zoe slightly wistful, R visibly sad.) Disinterested farewells were made to me. (But I had furry Consolation Prizes, so did not care.) And we were off.

One nauseating hour later we reached sanctuary. (I was in the back with the cats, being berated at top volume: you'd have thought they'd have lost their voices by about Wivelsfield, but no. And I do find it distressing when cats are so very afraid that their mouths open jaw-poppingly wide, and stay open).

Sam and Shiva adjusted surprisingly quickly. They did spend Saturday evening curled up on the bed with me, and Saturday night hiding under K's bed (so I spent a while, Sunday morning, wondering if they'd decided to head back to Burgess Hill). They've both ventured downstairs, to ignore their food and scoff the residents' dinner. Sam has reportedly discovered the cat-flap, though not used it. They know where the upstairs litter tray is, and have used it. (Bless!) Sam is being ever so bold and has sat at the top of the stairs, swearing at Pippin and / or Minnie at the bottom. And they are both very Brave about [livejournal.com profile] swisstone.

Poor [livejournal.com profile] residentevil666. No longer lord of all he surveys.

Oh, good news! Although I don't envy you that drive. Poor furries. And how much do I love that Shiva came when you called? *grin*

Yay!

I'm glad it worked out so well. And that a certain somebody got to see that cats are excellent judges of character. Ha.

This photograph may go some way towards explaining why Kate's laptop has died.

nah, that's HER laptop, not New Landlady's. New Landlady's has stopped working because of absence of fur / cat vomit / cat droool to aid connectivity.

Of course, the best way, if you have 2 cats, to get a specific one to come to you is to call the other one by name. For some reason, if you call a cat it assumes you wish to do it Harm (medicine, vet, etc), whereas if you call the other cat you are obviously going to offer it Treats.

Example: me attempting to get Lex to make an appearance to administer her eyedrops -
Me: "Lex"
Cassie: "Mooo*!" (comes trotting up to see me)
Me: "Hello Cassie. Lex!"
Cassie: "Moooo!" (paws at leg)
Me: "No, you're Cassie. LEX!!"
Cassie: "MOOOOOOO!" (reaches up with both paws and claws at my knee)
Me: "No, you're still Cassie. Oh FFS - Lex, get out from behind the sofa..!"

* yes, Cassie is a cat who says 'mooo'.

My dear old Christopher Robin would come when I called. He also almost fetched -- he'd chase a ball or pinecone down the hall, and wander back fairly frequently. I do miss him.

Lex used to play 'fetch' - on her own terms, at her instigation. She'd actually bring an item to you for you to throw, then retrieve it and bring it to another person for them to throw, and so on, working her way around the room. Equal-opportunities fetching. Very cute.

Hasn't done it in years tho', and is unlikely to ever again what with the whole 'blind' thing.

I'm so glad that the felinization of Tonbridge is going so well! I don't envy you all the first time there's a general Chase Game! going on up and down those stairs!

the sound of howls in the car is bad; silence is much much worse...
