"I'm feeling low: I'll finish off that box of ice-cream truffles" is a really stupid idea if you are even slightly lactose-intolerant.
Especially if you were feeling nauseous to start with.

I had a crepe yesterday, and don't appear to have suffered. MC had a brain fart and ordered me a ham and cheese crepe, but I managed to change it to ham and mushroom in time ;-)

Would it be silly to ask what a lactose-intolerant person is doing with a box of ice-cream truffles in the first place?

You need to develop a certain level of paranoia regarding milk-related products. Or at least learn not to eat them when you're already feeling ill!

But you already knew that. Sympathies, hope you recover soon.

they were in the freezer (which I'm trying to clear). And, in my defence, ice cream is not usually a problem. (Witness scarfing of whole pints of Mars ice cream without ill effects.) Suspect these were extra-full-cream or something. The problem is unlikely to recur, anyway!

I hae found a goats cheese in the local shops that stops at "mildly windy". You can try it if you like. When I was feeling self-abusive this weekend it took care if it nicely.

And for Ivory-goddess: self-harm seems to go with food intolerances. Not sure why but I don't know anyone with a food intolerance who hasn't at some moment stuffed their face with the forbidden. (This is not the same as allergies.)

wrote you long reply. LJ lost it.

Precis:
- my lactose-intolerance is weird and possibly not real. Cheese never sets me off. Ice cream is usually fine -- I can eat a lot without ill effects.

- long wibble about terminology 'self-harm'. Implies intent which was not there (only 'harm' should've been to waistline / hips). Also, slippery slope; whole big discussion about distinction between self-harm and not. (High heels? Smoking? Nylon undies? One glass of wine? One glass too many?)

I think of self harm as "I feel crap, what can I do that will give me an instant lift but which I *know* will make me feel worse later...."

Watching TV is closer to self-harm, for me, than ice cream! (Am wondering what it was about that particular brand -- of course I have binned all evidence -- that made me so very ill, in a way that whole milk or yoghurt do, and ice cream, mousse etc usually don't.)

Truly! My god I admire you. I do stay away from gluten--I'm depressive not suicidal--but I usually gorge on milk before realising I have pms. for some reason not recognising why I am doing this is one of the symptoms.
