Some of you will remember my dealings with $FinancialMisadviceCo, culminating in a paltry settlement because I opted for closure over vengeance justice.

One of $FinancialMisadviceCo's last pieces of misadvice concerned property investment in Estonia. I was a little concerned about the advice I'd been given, but $OverseasPropertyCo were always helpful and provided quite a bit of backup when I was dealing with $FinancialMisadviceCo.

$OverseasPropertyCo -- henceforth $OverseasImaginaryPropertyCo -- were saving it up. this evening's email ... what? all reputable companies send out vital e-mailings at 5:50pm on a Friday, don't they? )

Cat-scaring

Saturday, February 9th, 2008 01:14 pm
Have been sitting outside in the sunshine reading.
Near the beginning of the novel, a disreputable character was introduced. We know this because the adjective 'disreputable' preceded his name on page after page.
Then he disappeared and was not mentioned at all for hundreds of pages. (There was plenty else going on.)
Then right at the end he reappears. And I snarled in rage, because disreputable again. And the cats both ran away to hide. Possibly afraid I would read aloud to 'em.

Moral of this story: repetition will be mocked, so don't do it.
Took my Zen Stone, packed with recent downloads, for a brisk walk in the sunshine: up over the hill, down onto Earlswood Common, and back through the woods and across the golf course. For some reason I haven't done this much lately, but it's good exercise and I actually focus on what I'm listening to.

Top Three Mashups

- Mr. Rusty Collective -- I Fell In Love With Snow White (Snow, "Legal", vs White Stripes, "Fell In Love With a Girl") ... via Puritan Blister, who is out of hibernation. Yes, yes, easy to mash anything with rap, but this works unusually well and had me bouncing through the mud. Check out the Collective's website, which has a delightfully retro media player.

- DJ Erb -- Soggy Bottom Gwen (Soggy Bottom Boys, "I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow", from O Brother Where Art Thou, mixed with Gwen Stefani "Hollaback Girl": sorry, that's a YouTube video, can't find track for free download any more, though you can get it for 27p on DJ Erb's site).

- ComaR -- Shut up on a Blue Monday (Rihanna, "Shut Up and Drive", vs New Order, "Blue Monday": actually I thought that was a deliberate, er, Hommage) .. also via Puritan Blister.

Bonus Original Stuff

Finding lots to like as I sample The Duke Spirit -- especially Lassoo.
