My shower stopped working last week. As did I. Apparently one of us infected the other, for the problem is exactly the same: high pressure leading to sudden cessation of normal function.

Solution for shower: a new Pressure Relief Device, costing £8.10, to be installed by the very wonderful [livejournal.com profile] nolley on Saturday.

Solution for me: little pink pills that plunge me into a slough (or possibly Slough) of despond within an hour of taking them. (Not helped, this morning, by a trackside fire at Nunhead which meant no Victoria trains. Solution simple: change at London Bridge for Battersea Park. Nevertheless, was Tearful and Pathetic. Has anyone else had nasty moodswings as a result of beta-blockers? Am on them for at least the next two weeks: will be no fun at all.)

Hmm. The only reaction I ever had to beta-blockers was getting spaced out and dissociated (to the extent that I nearly had a crash within two minutes of starting my second driving test...) Can the doctor not do better by you?

Ooh, ooh, I'm in London for the autumn equinox - how does Greenwich Park sound? [livejournal.com profile] ladymoonray too?

These pills are an emergency stop-gap: hopefully I'll get to change prescription once blood tests, heart trace etc have been done, but meanwhile hopefully they'll keep me functioning. Not fun though!

Not sure what is happening Autumn equinox yet, but Greenwich sounds a good place to be ...

Will also be in London 6th-8th August - thought wouldn't have time for anything but may now have! My mobile number is in [livejournal.com profile] ladymoonray's journal in the picnic post in case you haven't got the most recent one.

I'm very sorry that you're under the weather...and I would be even more sympathetic if your shower metaphore hadn't caused me to splort diet Pepsi out of my nose. Thank you a million times for beta-ing my messy BTFH. You're an angel -- you should be able to fly around London on shining wings.

My mother says that the patient leaflet for her beta-blockers (which are not pink) does warn of mood changes as a possible side-effect. She's been on medication for high blood pressure for well over thirty years now; email me if you want any more (albeit second-hand) information.

And I've since found out that my father knew someone else on beta-blockers which did make them very depressed; the better news being that this was a side-effect which seems kind of personal to particular combinations of people and brands of pills, so they really should be able to match you with some that suit you.

there are some really good herbal treatments for blood pressure like hawthorn which are less intrusive to other systems - the herbalist at Neal's yard is excellent and you can get a backrub while you're there ;-)

*hugs*
