I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that there is no resemblance whatsoever between new-web-page-using-CSS viewed in IE and new-web-page-using-CSS viewed in Mozilla Firebird.

EDIT: Fixed it!

Moral of story (1): Never paste sample code without running it through W3C first.

Moral of story (2): Always include a link to that 'life' thing. You never know when you might need it.

PS: my CSS validates. Doesn't work, but validates ...

ZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

trying to get CSS to work cross-browser is something that drives me and <lj="perlmonger"> mad(der). It'd be if it wasn't for the heap of steaming donkey poo that is IE/Windows.

In context, LJ's addition to that strikes me as hilarious... :¬))

css - so frustrating *g*

And who cares whether it works - there's still great superiority - although preciously few people (at least in my circle of friends) get it.

Here I write everything for Firebird. At work, it's IE and in theory Netscape. Pages that should look the same don't: try this (http://www.sff.net/people/chris.amies/publist/index.html) where the pictures sit alongside the text in Firebird but not in IE even though they should. The other buggerance in CSS is that you can't set table cell parameters - like align top, for example.

Yes you can. "vertical-align: top" doesn't work in NS4, but it's fine in everything else. IE/Win has an entirely depressing number of bugs and deficiencies in CSS table formatting, but there's still a lot of useful stuff (backgrounds, borders, padding) that do work.

'Here I Go Again'. Very apposite considering the amount of time I spent staring at that bloody CSS!
