Had planned to be at ENO enjoying their new Rheingold, despite what the critics say. Instead am laid low with another migraine, a month (to the day) since the last one.

Except not actually 'laid low': having had so many recently, I've learnt to spot the omens, and I took a pink Migraleve. It hasn't stopped everything, but I don't have a killer headache: for which relief much thanks. This made me feel rather a fraud for coming home at lunchtime, but I've spent all afternoon gazing blankly at the ceiling or actually asleep, and I ache and I'm dizzy.

I am also extremely grateful for the wondrous [livejournal.com profile] ladymoonray who came over to look after me, made tea, cooked food and was generally a Very Good Thing.

Am determined to fix this frequent debility, otherwise next one will occur at Eastercon.

An Observation on Modern Opera:
There is an excerpt from John Adams' Nixon in China playing on Radio 3. And there is a car alarm going off outside. But I didn't realise it was a car alarm until I left the room and part of the music seemed to be following me ...

Ah, so you were listening to Radio 3 too (we must have been sharing the braincell properly, instead of switching it back and forth). I was driving on the M25, and kept thinking people were beeping at me. Which they may well have been, but I certainly couldn't tell :)

I wrote my final year dissertation on Nixon in China. It's great. I even got an email from John Adams in 1995 while I was doing my research -- I had put a John Adams biography on my website and he sent me some information to update it -- but unfortunately I haven't got a clue what I did with my old emails from that long ago any more... The dissertation didn't turn out particuarly well and my tutors swore they'd never let anybody pick such a subject again because it was too hard to define, but I really enjoyed doing the research. I saw him at the proms in 2002. Great stuff.
