We-ell ...

As [livejournal.com profile] swisstone says, it's difficult to screw this up completely, as the source material is so funny.

But ...

Problems were twofold:
1) Too many funny voices
2) Too few ideas.

They used (though did not credit) the Penguin translation, which transposes the Spartans to Scotland: all very well, but this does not excuse bad Scottish accents. (Or casting a man in a wig as Lampeto). And some of those jokes are rather old, now ... and there weren't any new ones ... and it simply seemed a little too earnest and not quite focussed.

Was rather taken by what appeared to be the Time Warp, danced during one of the Spartan Songs at the end.

Oh, and as my Cultural Guide Dr [livejournal.com profile] swisstone said (anxiously) at the interval, "there's not nearly enough lesbian innuendo." Plenty of knob jokes, though. Authentic ones.

For more intellectual commentary (or so you may vaguely hope) see [livejournal.com profile] swisstone when he catches up with himself.
