Entry originally titled Balancing Acts, but then they did, so it isn't.

no, I have not been drinking. This is quite normal.

Today started with the realisation that I was in one of those grey moods: so, after that, the only way was up, baby.

I'm having a good day:

  • [livejournal.com profile] sbisson wrote me a hymn! This may be the nicest thing anyone has ever said about me, certainly on LJ. Now I want the remix ...
  • Am eating pickled onions out of the jar, secure in the knowledge that no one is in a position to complain
  • Have developed a theory about fanwriting and LJing. It may be worthy enough to actually get written up
  • have salvaged boss's (and, incidentally, own) reputation by developing a working prototype in 5 hours, after a hellish meeting that I've been requesting for over a month
  • Can smell sample of new perfume, Gloria, even after a swim. Clearly a little goes a long way. It's rather pleasant, if slightly marshmallowy.
  • lots of good stuff on Q's May cover CD: ... especially the Dirtbombs, over-amplified blues rock with a wonderfully retro feel: Kosheen, Gothy drum'n'bass: Simian ... ah. It says 'trip-hop'. Should I be worried? But it's good. [Creak, goes my mind, opening a bit more]. Shall go buy some of it tomorrow.
  • read a book for half an hour and didn't feel sick. Am very happy about this: last time I tried (and the time before and the time before etc) it did make me sick, and I'd rather slumped into assuming I was now functionally illiterate (except for e-books).
  • the guys downstairs are smoking a joint with the window open. Bastards: it has tobacco in it. But the tobacco doesn't bother me, which is One Giant Step.

And on that note of smugness, shall kick back and wait for Tesco's to deliver non-pickled food.

Way to go Tamaranth!

I have sinned. I have just shown [livejournal.com profile] marypcb this (http://www.astraware.com/ppc/mine/) so she is now cursing me for it. Me, I feel justified in giving her something to do on the plane on Monday as she jets off for the far shores of Cupertino and San Jose...

I will refrain from mentioning the version (http://www.astraware.com/palm/bejeweled/) that will run on your Visor.

bad, naughty, mustn't! Am very glad I don't have a colour Visor... and anyway, stoopid game quite like evil, horrid, addictive Bubblet (http://www.oopdreams.com/bubblet/) ...

Prefer tribute in form of hymns, please! [And - thanks for cable. Have not forgotten indebtedness ...]

Sounds intrigueing...

Pickled Onions?

What sort of pickled onions?
I was highly disappointed recently on purchasing a jar labelled 'Strong Pickled Onions' to discover they were severely misrepresented. Eugh! Can't bear weak and watery pickled onions. Seriously wish I knew how my grandma made pickled onions, I've never been able to buy any anywhere near as strong...

these were bought in Wales and were local produce. They taste very strongly of earth as well as pickling spice, and everyone else hated them.
And now they're gone. Sob!

Most supermarket ones are crap. Hellmans Evil Pickles (or whatever they're called) are good ...

No you shouldn't be worried. I find that I'm liking a lot of music these days which a prior incarnation of me wouldn't have touched with a bargepole. My new rule is that if I hear it and I like it then I'll probably end up getting it irrespective of genre.

I've just gone and bought the Q + disc on strength of your rec. Not new for me tho I suspect, that's the problem (I already like Kosheen) - I really must break out of this goth-trip-hop-dance groove I've been in for about the last 3 years..

well, all you had to do was say listen to this amazing music ...
Hope you find something new and groovy on the CD! So much easier than listening to nasty pop music radio, full of cheerful idiots.
