Help!

WebDNS, who provide whatever makes www.bsfa.co.uk (which will not work) point to www.avnet.co.uk/amaranth/BSFA/ (which should work) seem to have gone out of business. Our redirect vanished some time last week. So did their website. They are not answering emails. Their phone number doesn't work (disconnected or out of order).

Bastards

What can I do to get www.bsfa.co.uk working again, and pointing where it should?

NB: This does count as 'yet another bloody thing going wrong', yes

Tricky one - nothing on Usenet to indicate whether it's technical problems or going out of business.

However, as whois indicates that you (or at least the BSFA) are the owners of the domain it should be fairly easy to get it detagged, and moved to another forwarding service. It may just take a little time - but its days not weeks.

Realsiing I may not have been clear enough - the important thing here is the registrant information and the tag. As you are the registrant, you have all the rights - the tag just indicates which ISP is looking after things for you.

Many thanks for this!

I'm surprised that there is no news re WebDNS online -- I would have thought that this would have affected a lot of people. On the other hand, it might be an Avnet-type situation -- because we got the domain name free and have never paid anything, it's possible that they have mailed their customers and we're simply not on their customer list.

Grrrr.

You may want to look at www.easily.co.uk, who I recall had a means of taking over a site from another host. I find them fine for my modest needs and helpful to deal with. Or you couuld talk to one of the experts on here who will, doubtless, be along shortly.

Many thanks! That does look easy, and cheap too.

Too nice a day to hang around for experts. Sunshine bound to get rid of sulk and temper tantrums (mine, not theirs). Anyway, have to ask permission to spend boundless BSFA funds.

Nominet (www.nic.uk), who manage the .uk top-level domain, will transfer a domain to a new registrar for you for about £15 if the existing registrar isn't cooperating with the process for whatever reason. Any decent .co.uk registrar should be able to work the process for you.

No constructive ideas - only encouraging vibes. Sorry.

Have you seen my message for you and [livejournal.com profile] ladymoonray?

we'll host it for you for free, if you want :) No forwarding required then.

Already hosted free! (What, pay for web/net stuff? heavens, no!) I don't understand these things -- can you host it and call it www.bsfa.co.uk? Free of charge? Happy to move it from Avnet to you if this can be sorted quickly and painlessly (too much pain in other areas of life right now!)

1) Is to find some organisation that can do your DNS (eg me if I get some help :-)
2) is to change your domain registration to point to the new DNS server.
