Have just had an email from hotel liaison: they are about to announce availability of some more single rooms in the main hotel ("watch for email").

They did also warn me that, if I'm not part of the con block booking, I run the risk of being 'bumped' to an overflow if the hotel has overbooked. Er, what??? I have been bumped from a hotel only once -- when building work had overrun. And frankly: NO. If this happens, I'll be heading home (composing my letter of complaint to the hotel). Two Eastercons in overflow is at least one too many. I'm planning on FUN, dammit.

I was threatened by bumping once (http://community.livejournal.com/anonymousclaire/430929.html), in a phone call from a Novacon hotel about ten minutes before I left the house to drive up (I'd booked direct with the hotel because I hadn't been sure to get there until after the deadline for via-the-con room bookings had expired). I told the hotel that if they bumped me, they'd have me sleeping in the bar. Curiously, a room was then made available.

This sounds like scaremongering. You have a contract with the hotel. Hotels tend to be pretty careful about keeping to them in these days of internet feedback.

Hmm. I have just looked at my online booking for Eastercon and note that under 'Other Requirements' the 'Hotel Notes' section tells me "Single room queue position no. [BLAH]".... do you think they're getting the hint?

I have been bumped from the Radisson before, at a Buffy con. The con organisers just said, Whoops, they did that to one of the guests too, and wandered off aimlessly. The hotel were very good and got us into the one across the road. Which actually had cheaper drinks and a better breakfast.

We got bumped from the 2Kon hotel, after we had the temerity to do an end run round that year's decision to have a lottery to get into the Central. We apparently actually got bumped because of a flooded room.

The hotel put us up elsewhere, and paid for taxis to and fro.

We also got flooded at the '95 Worldcon, too, so maybe it's a Glasgow problem, though in that case we discovered the problem in the morning, when the carpet squished soggily beneath out bare feet. Oh, and the specific hotel we were in had spare rooms, so we didn't get bumped that time.

In a pretty solid 15 plus years of staying in a lot of hotels as an academic I have *never* been bumped.

utterly butterly btw. Overflow last time was almost but not quite enough to put me off eastercons for life.
