Saw Watchmen last night (much-postponed) and loved it. Yes, it's over-long, but it's so beautifully shot that I can forgive it a great deal. Love the soundtrack too, except 'Hallelujah', context of which made me want to giggle. Some of the bloodier violence squicked me a bit, but frankly I'd be more worried if it hadn't. I'd been doubtful that some of the scenes would translate to film, but my doubts were pretty much unfounded.

Haven't read the original for a long time, and am impressed -- by Moore's / Gibbons' creation of strikingly memorable scenes, or by the director's ability to reproduce those scenes? -- that I recognised so many compositions: the film definitely sticks to the visual aesthetic, it feels right. I know the ending was different [*checks* yep, but I kind of like the film version better] but suspect there are other minor changes -- such as the omission of the Black Freighter layer, which I understand will be on the DVD.

Was Adrian Veidt always so effete? Was the plot, the action, always so Americentric? Did Nixon really have that nose? [*checks* I guess so]

Uncomfortably post-9/11 scenes at the end, ground zero ...
