A couple of people have remarked on the horridness of the S2 comments pages. I noticed this on a friend's post ...

There *is* a way to keep the old comments page with a new style:

If you go to Customize, then click the "Edit Customizations" button at the bottom, you can then choose to edit your presentation options (the tab at the top). Then choose yes for "Enable to use the old comment page instead of the newer style specific view."

At least, that's how I did it for my S2 tabular indent layout.

Am going off to try it right now: fingers crossed ...

No, this is for disabling the S2 comments page style in your own posts -- to see other people's comments pages in S1 style if they are using S2 comments page style, you have to open it with a particular option (which I think is ?S=1, or something like that ...)

Ah, right...

Sorry, I misunderstood what you were saying:
When S2 came out, there was a Plan to allow people to force the "default" (ie pale blue and white) S2 comments page (which is what you get if you do the # thing - see my memories for how to do it).

It doesn't seem to have happened yet.

I and (afaik) [livejournal.com profile] sbisson are using the S2 "default view" (ie prettier root pages) but are still using our S1 styles for /journal and /friends, becuase we put a lot of effort in and S1 is more obviously customisable than S2.

This fix, as I understand it, is good if you use the S2 /journal and /friends, and possibly if you use the S2 default, but doesn't work if you use the S2 default with S2 styles.

Appols for wordiness. Am a bit pished.

Aha, all is now clear(er). Didn't realise that you could mix S1 and S2 -- but yes, I'm not surprised that this then doesn't work with it.

Still, it should solve quite a few people's layout crises -- and would it be possible to amend the bastardised S1/S2 style to include that '#S1' option in the 'post comment' link?

Hmm... No, I don't think that it would, becuase you don't have the actual comment links on the customise page.

But I might have a play with it later and see if I can get around it - thanks for the idea!
