I've not yet used freecycle. I find that living 5 minutes from the Council dump and owning a car takes care of most of my disposal issues... (they have recycling facilities for stuff wot is recyclable, it's not like it all goes to landfill).
Of course, there's always the 'leave it on the pavement with a note' option - that seems to work well in certain urban areas. My sister recently got rid of a 32" tv that weighed over 10 stone via that method...
