Oh yes. anniversary of my father's death.

Yep, that'll do it. The first anniversary of my Dad's death hit me hard and unexpectedly... It doesn't get any easier, I suspect.

Actually, it does. Eventually. My father died 15 years ago last week, and it was only your comment that prompted me to think "Oh yes, it was that week wasn't it".

Mind you, I think there was a subconscious thing going on because I did dream about him last week. But it doesn't depress me now, it only makes me wistful.

I know the feeling. However, it does fade with time but more than you expected it to take. Coincidentally yesterday would have been my dad's birthday and I was a bit gloomy because of it, but only a bit after 5 years.
