Death of a PDA

My Palm T5 is on the way out (won't switch off; only picking up about 50% of screen interaction) and ... waaaaaa. I use the T5 a lot, daily, and though the Handspring is fine as an interim measure (CAN HAZ COLOR SUDOKU Y/N) I need to sort a replacement pretty quickly.

1. Does anyone have a Palm TX / T5 / E2 that they'd be willing to sell to me in the next few days? (If it's less than Amazon Marketplace then I will think it a good deal!)
2. Failing (1), does anyone have experience or recs of these or other Palm PDAs? Things to avoid?

I need:
- Palm OS
- colour screen
- preferably *larger* screen (T5 is 320x480)
- at least 32MB storage

I wouldn't mind:
- wifi

I am indifferent to:
- Bluetooth
- camera
- MP3
- video playback

I do not need or want:
- smartphone
- T3 unless someone can prove that the battery problems I had were a glitch with my particular Palm

I can probably dig out my old Clié TH55, which has everything on your list, including Wifi. I'm not sure what shape the battery is in, however.

That would be very kind! How much would you like for it and what's the best way for me to get my paws on it?

Battery life less of an issue than it used to be as I am usually within reach of charger these days.

Let me check that I can find it (and its cradle), and that it works.

OK, the Clié and its cradle are located and proved to be functional. Though I still can't speak for the battery life. You need to be aware that the Clié range has some user interface changes that need to be demoronised to give you a standard Palm OS interface. I'd rather hang on to the power lead that goes from the mains socket to the charging brick, which has the standard two pin connector, if you have one from your Palm T5.

Will you be in London any time soon? We'll be at the Ton next week, but that's the next time we're likely to see anyone who could get it to you.

Very much appreciate your digging it out -- but mine is now totally dead so have bitten the bullet and bought a refurbished TX via Amazon. (Amazon very kindly remind me that I bought my last TX almost 3 years ago and it cost double what this one's costing me ... I don't feel so bad about it.)

Thank you again for offer and effort!

Note that the T3, T5 and TX and Lifedrive share the same screen resolution, 320x480, and this is the highest resolution supported by any PalmOS device to date.

I have a modified Lifedrive I can be persuaded to part with: the microdrive has been replaced by a 4Gb CF card so it's faster than greased weasel shit, and it has a 7-9 hour battery life, but the graffiti area of the screen is slightly frosted (it's been used). If you slap Dmitry's new SDHC driver software on it (which supports the LD) it's good for up to a 32Gb internal CF card and 32Gb in the SD slot, although the former would require surgery.

(Can bring it to Novacon if you're interested -- I've moved to an iPaq 214 for my PDA needs, so otherwise it's moldering in a drawer. My nice TX I can't be persuaded to part with, even though it's slower and smaller than the LD -- it's my duty spare PDA.)

Most kind! Let me see whether I'm sorted with [livejournal.com profile] drplokta's Clie ... shan't be at Novacon though, and really need to get a replacement in the next week or so.

is v kind of you! Will see if [livejournal.com profile] drplokta's suits, and let you know ... suspect postage would be steep, though, so it may end up cheaper for me to get one off ebay or something.
