That's not a small cat, that's a pair of EYES! Even so, I see your point. I'm glad you're not lugging that around on a train, you'd need a suitcase for it.

book weighs more than cat: and cat is indignant at having to share her bed (and my attention) with book.
I suspect I will have to read in small doses (unlike The System of the World, which I was able to read all day because it was an e-book).

I thought if I enlarged the photo I might catch more of a glimpse of Shiva. However, it merely accentuated the effect of a pair of very mournful eyes, and was quite perturbing.

I feel you have hit upon the essence of Shiva: eyes + perturbing. See her LJ user icon here: [livejournal.com profile] samandshiva (It'd be really sad of me to buy an LJ rename for my cat's LJ, wouldn't it?)
This is quite a good photo of Shiva (http://www.flickr.com/photos/tamaranth/466056814/) ...

Why is cat not on book? Because book is not open and being read...

For a few months Amazon.co.uk had the publication date of this listed as 1 September. Right up until 2 September, when I asked why my copy hadn't been despatched and they admitted that they had no idea when they'd be receiving it. So I started bugging the publisher's enquiry email, and after several queries, and queries about why they were ignoring my queries, I got a reply saying that the publication date was 1 October, which I though was odd, given that I'd bought it about an hour earlier. I replied to let them know this, and have yet to receive a reply. But if that's the calibre of the marketing of Neal Stephenson's UK publishers, I think he should be very worried.

Yeah, my final copy turned up from Atlantic today, with a letter saying the publication date is October 1. Who knows what's going on ...
