It's been a long time since I bored you all with a status report on my various ongoing complaints, as summarised here. So ...

1. The camera thing: Fuji finally (after 5 phonecalls and 2 letters) sent me paperwork! Currys finally updated my policy details! And on Friday DHL will be picking up my sand-filled camera, to cart it off to see if it can be repaired (my guess is not) and then eventually I will have either a mended or a brand-new camera, which I will promptly list on eBay since I caved and bought a new camera just before Christmas.

2. The solicitor complaint is done and dusted.

3. Neighbours: still wish they'd move -- they spend too long in the garden! -- but not enough to grass on them to the letting agency.

4. Avis: all sorted.

5. The Estonia thing: there is now an Action Group, how sweet! and regular emails on their attempts to corner $OverseasPropertyCo. new development! $FinancialMisadviceCo (who seem to have misadvised most of the people in the Action Group) are also taking an interest and being pushy, though they are not returning my emails, possibly because I have already extorted compensation from them for other misdemeanours (see here-ish for recap). Still, they are doing some of the hard work, so yay.

6. New entry. Lewisham Council swore blind that they'd refund the council tax payments I had to make while the London flat was empty -- i.e. to end of November 2007. Many many phonecalls later I am still waiting for a penny of it. Previous phonecalls have elicited combinations of the following:
- apology
- assurance that it'll be sent out in $ShortTerm, for values of $ShortTerm between '3 days' and '2 weeks'
- a letter telling me the credit balance is zero
- a council tax bill for 2008 / 2009
- a letter adjusting my council tax bill for 2008 / 2009 by the hypothetical refund amount.

7. New entry. BT are ever so sorry that my mobile phone doesn't do what I want (e.g. sending / receiving texts in a timely fashion; accessing interweb on the move), and costs more to not do it than I'd pay elsewhere for shiny up-to-date service. Their customer care is much better than their service. They will be sending me a new phone to see if that helps. It will arrive on Friday. I like their precision.

I'm getting really really tired of having to chase every complaint so hard. I put off calling BT for weeks because I couldn't face another saga, so it was a lovely surprise to find them so sympathetic and cooperative.

I had terrible problems with Lewisham council over council tax, in the end I wrote a very stroppy letter of complaint threatening legal action and finally got my money back.

Good news on quite a few fronts: excellent.
Council Tax: I had a huge problem over this a few years back that only really resolved when I moved out of a particular jurisdiction. But: stick to you guns and if they continue to dither, threaten legal action. As far as I can tell, most issues of this type are caused by poorly trained and unmotivated staff who dodge anything that isn't absolutely by the rules.
