A Night At the Opera House

Had a splendid evening yesterday, though not the evening I intended. I'd meant to go to Brighton for the Macmillan party honouring authors Cherith Baldry, Tanith Lee and Liz Williams. Due to backache (I don't trust the temporary yoga teacher at all) plus a client visit that overran, I ended up as 'friend of'
lproven at a Nokia press party at the Royal Opera House.
It was fun looking at the new toys. (Phone + MP3 player: phone + camera: phone + game console ... there's an innovative rush to Nokia that appeals to me.) It was more fun gazing out across Covent Garden.

[Despite being a keen opera-goer, I've not yet seen a production at the renovated ROH: ticket prices are prohibitive. At the ENO I can see an opera for £3, while I think the cheapest seats at the ROH are about ten times that.] The canapes were suitably fishy, and the party bag included a bonsai. Only complaint: stupid wooden decking of terrace bar is hell on high heels!
There was a busker in the Piazza, playing 'Sultans of Swing'; camera-flashes like summer lightning around the rim of the Eye; lavish, unfinished costumes in the workshop next to the walkway; chocolate fudge cake canapes. Beer. Art.
