From a Harry Potter RSS feed: "In four days' time, more than one million people across Britain will pay £16.99 for the latest installment in the Harry Potter series ... "

Where?
I have yet to see a bookseller offering it at full price. Cheapest seems to be Evil-Empire Tesco's (£7.64) ...

Wendy told me last night that her store has some ridiculous number of pre-orders (120,000 springs to mind but that can't be right, surely). I don't know the price, though.

I'm not going to bother with it at the moment. Maybe I'll pick up a copy when they start making the film.

Apparently, the postal service is due to collapse under the strain of delivering the pre-orders as they're officially too heavy for posties' bags and must be delivered by van mail.

I've been told that a really really really really really virulent form of herpes has been impreganted into the pages of the latest novel by those "Asylum Seekers" working for Al Quaeda and Saddam Hussein and that western civilization is about to collaspe because no one will do any work until they have read the book and by then all the nukular power stations will have blown up and we will all be dead from radiation poisoning...

So no change there, then?

Personally, I intend to read no papers and listen to no radio news this weekend. It's not that I object to the books, but I am sick of the hype.

I am amazed by the prices over here in sweden. The Science Fiction Bookstore sells it for about 17-18 pounds so that means that they pay more for the book buying it from the publisher then Tesco is selling it for to the public.OK this is Sweden so theres shipping and some taxes but still. There is a swedish chain BOKUS that sells it for a tenner.
