- dance music is faster Up North (160bpm) than in London (90bpm). (Inverse proportion to average temperature?)
- Two London branches of HMV are responsible for 50% of all classical music sales nationwide. (Given the pathetic classical sections of most 'record stores' -- what does one call them now? -- the trend is not surprising, but the starkness of it is.)
- Leeds: Goth Capital of Britain.
"the authority of critics is being undermined by a raucous blogging culture and an increasingly commercial publishing industry"

Date: Wednesday, February 6th, 2008 11:06 am (UTC)Hmm. I think you're right, and it's partly down to the nature of HMV shops - well, music shops in general. There's so much classical music around, if the shops don't stock a good range, people won't buy it because they can't find what they want. And then it gets circular, because people aren't buying so HMV won't stock it. I suppose only the London shops are big enough to have a good range.
Personally I buy classical music either from Amazon (because it's cheap, and they have an excellent range), or from MDC (because it's underneath the Festival Hall and I Want It Now).
