... almost over that bloody lurgy, though throat's still sore and sinuses full of gunk.

... catching up on reading (books): suspecting I've missed the point of Wolfe's Pirate Freedom, finding I like Ilario (Mary Gentle) more than I liked Ash, wondering if my brain is up to a challenging read or whether it's time to lounge by the fire reading something frivolous.

... dead impressed by some of the fanfiction in the Yuletide exchange, which does what fanfic does best: playful, affectionate riffing on a beloved original. (Would anyone be interested in a few wholesome recommendations?)

... amused by 'Hunting The Cutty Wren' ('Mrs Ackroyd Band') as posted by [livejournal.com profile] nineweaving t'other day. Saw several wrens on Leith Hill. They looked relieved that Boxing Day was past.

... thinking positively about 2008.

Ah, the Mrs Ackroyd band! Missed seeing them in Cambridge due to babysitter shortage, but have one much played CD. I love The Hard Cheese of Old England, The Trains of Waterloo and the one about Nancy, Roger and Nancy's Willy. The boys like the one that mostly involves singing "popadom popadom" to the tune of the William Tell Overture.
