How long might one expect it to take dogs to settle down in a new home?

I have new neighbours, upstairs. Neighbours have dogs. Dogs are unhappy. Loudly, eerily, vocally unhappy at 2:15am, 4:40am and 6am.

Oh. Bugger.

I'd guess either it'll settle down very soon (likely). Or not at all (unlikely). Very soon meaning clear improvement within a couple of nights.

Although if the dog next door is anything to go by you'll always have barking at such major crises such as post arriving, bins emptying, appearance of unauthorised stranger (you) in doggy territory (your garden). Etc. Actually Tulla's a nice dog. Only barks in the daytime, very friendly even to cats, although Zil and Fruitcake have yet to let her near enough to persuade them of good intentions.

You can't have my precious earplugs, but I'll send you some virtual ones.

Probably within a week.

It depends. My mum's dogs periodically cause a row at about 6 am, because something has disturbed them, and have been doing so for years. And multiple dogs will generally make it worse, as they set each other off - a single dog gets bored if they don't get any response.
