I'm sure I've mentioned Music Theatre London before -- irreverent and hilarious versions of classic operas, of which I am a complete fan. In revenge, no doubt, for the criminal lack of funding, they are producing an updated version of Mozart's Marriage of Figaro at the Drill Hall.

"May 2003: Britain's president is in deep trouble and the opposition party has come to the conclusion that the only way to remove itself from the headlines is to remove its leader. Sir Michael envisions himself as the party's saviour and, aided and abetted by his Machiavellian press secretary, is determined to triumph. He is equally determined to have his wicked way with his wife's assistant whose husband-to-be, Figaro, is determined that Sir Michael will not. Sir Michael's long-suffering wife is intrigued by the attentions of her godson, while intrigue drives Marcellina and her lawyer sidekick to ever more ludicrous plottings. Add to this mayhem false identities, crossdressing and outrageous comedy, and you have an opera production which comes up as fresh-minted as it first did in Vienna."

Any takers? I'm aiming for Sunday 18th May (4pm - all tickets £10).

Waaah! I'm going to see Tom Evans in a silly version of The Railway Children that day, so I can't make it I'm afraid :(
