'Frog Pond', by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro

I'm very fond of CQY's short fiction, though I couldn't find my absolute favourite ('The Fellini Beggar') online. I like the mythic and cultural references, the straightforward narration, the twists ... This is a sweet little tale that lets go its secrets gradually, with admirable pacing and without really ever coming out and saying what's going on.

Good story, and thanks, you've just induced a plot convolution for the WiP ...! (where there is already a character who can do what that story's narrator does anyway - it's an ability found in some parts of the world where it's useful).
