For the second question, you used a radio box (only one item can be checked) instead of allowing for multiple whoopee fun b0rkage.

O no, it would be far less interesting if they didn't do almost everything for you, except the difficult bit.

Yup - shoulda had an "all of the above" option, given the fun I've had with IKEA's fun furniture...

but in Meccano, all the necessary holes, components etc are provided.
And you can do right angles.

I do understand the instructions, because we have now made so many of these things.

The only thing funnier than insisting that something is in stock when it isn't is issuing very precise instructions about exactly where in the enormous warehouse the exact number of the thing you want, in the right size and colour, can be found -- and then putting them somewhere else. Three metres above your head.

It's possible that they put them somewhere else on Visit One. But I am deeply suspicious of the way that [livejournal.com profile] swisstone was able to find them so easily on Visit Two, unaccompanied by me. Almost like one of those Zen puzzles, where you can only find something when you don't want it ...

And I am ever so suspicious of a box which has two labels attached, one claiming it is 39cm wide and one claiming it is 37cm ...

The really fun thing? Everyone else's flatpack furniture is worse.

Oh no it isn't! (Cue brief pantomime exchange.)

Tesco's flat-pack bed was a doddle, and warned me about all the things I needed to be warned about. ("Do not tighten screws until you have added all slats.") And FutonDirect's futon took me 15 minutes. AND came with an Allen key that is more robust than anything IKEA provide -- I know, as I used it for 3 out of the 4 Flarkes.
