Cat blight

Under the cut there's a slightly blurry photo of the Blight on Sam's belly. it's a bit like a blood blister with a scab attached. Just one at the moment but I think there have been others. There are quite a few bumps under his belly-fur, and for years he has 'overgroomed' in this area. Vet did give me some fungicidal cream (before the Blight appeared) but no joy.

Any idea as to what it might be?

Looks like a cat-nipple from here!

That's what I thought at first, but it is a boy. And he jumped a mile when I put my finger on it (it's hidden in that hugely long hair). It seems rather sore.

Both my boys have the full quota of cat-nipples - rather like chaps have human nipples - but i suspect that what that fluff-bundle has got is an infected one. Could be that it's got scratched or bitten. Vet, I think, if poss.

Oh, I hope that is it. Thanks! There is a vet trip being sorted out, I believe.

I'm so glad you said that as I was thinking the same. Maybe it's an infected nipple?

Does he have fleas? Bandit used to be allergic to flea bites (I know the feeling, believe me) and would, unlike me, come out in crusty rashes that made me think he had cancer at one point.

Also, Smudge stopped overgrooming once he had his teeth sorted out. I'm not suggesting the two were directly connected, but if overgrooming is a product of anxiety, if there is something else bothering him ...

And me too.

If it isn't, I doubt it's serious, just show it to the vet next time you go, you don't need to make a special trip of it.

the overgrooming doesn't seem to have damaged the fur - it doesn;t look thin and there aren't coarse white hairs, which are the typical problems. even male cats have pretty sensitive nipples and (erm) like washing them. TMI...
