Way, way back at the beginning of the year I suggested various operas, concerts etc that I was considering seeing. Some of you expressed an interest in coming along. I promptly did nothing, and have continued this initiative.

There is a good reason - or two - for this: lack of income means that I need all the space I can get on my credit cards, and also makes it difficult to plan with any confidence. (Also, of course, Am Crap. Waaaaa.)

However, I present to you the following information:

- Rigoletto at the ENO. Tuesday 11th March, 7:30. I will be buying balcony tickets on the day, for (at least) myself and [livejournal.com profile] ladymoonray. It's a gorgeous production. You would be most welcome to join us.

- Music Theatre London reviving their Marriage of Figaro production: the Drill Hall, Saturdays and Sundays 11 May - 8 June. MTL offer alternative versions of opera classics (Cosi fan Tutte set on an East Anglian airbase, complete with Airfix model planes; La Boheme set in East London among addicts and benefit frauds; Die Fledermaus set at a private clinic) and are quite possibly the funniest opera company I have ever seen. Plus they do it on purpose. Anyone coming with me?

I think I'll have to pass on Rigoletto - I need to get Swiss Tony Speaks To The Nation (http://www.livejournal.com/talkread.bml?journal=anonymousclaire&itemid=189133) written. I'd like to go to Figaro, but due to moving commitments I don't think I can go until June.

You are not crap.

What Tony said about MTL. We really need to get the moving sorted out, and if we keep booking things for May we'll never do it in time. But we can always go by ourselves in June.

Rigoletto ooh yes please

Yes, I'd really like to come to Rigoletto; I'm really glad you have a Plan. Can you get balcony tickets on the day for as many people as you like? Or do I need to turn up too (I work quite close to ENO so it's not impossible)?

MTL also sounds very good. Depending what day it is, so let me know.

Thanks so much for sorting this out.

Arrgh! Steven has just pointed out that I am triple-booked for 11 March. Must manage calendars better. Anyway, can't come to Rigoletto; terribly sorry for vacillating in a disorderly fashion.

MTL! Yay!

Rigoletto: think I'd enjoy it? (Answer using your skill and judgement.)

Should I attempt to forcefeed [livejournal.com profile] kjersti Southern European Culture?

Rigoletto may be just your sort of thing. Has a Memorable Tune ('La donna e mobile' - 'the lady is using her cellphone') and a splendid setting, complete with jammed 50s jukebox for the weird pause at the beginning of aforementioned aria.

[livejournal.com profile] kjersti, hailing as she does from a nation whose entry in The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Opera is [-a-] entirely unfamous and [-b-] shorter than the entry for Manchester, may find it culturally embarrassing. But it's a jolly little story with unhappy endings all round, a superb production and some very funny bits.

Oh go on ...

I can't make it (too close to exams (eek), Clarke Award (double eek) and shipping out to the States for a holiday (that would be a triple eek with little chocolate sprinkles)) but would these be the people who did the legendary Croydon/PVC Don Giovanni? With the Leporello who looked like Paul Billinger?

In which case, I envy you all.
