On syndicated feeds

I'm starting to think that setting up feeds to my non-LJ blogs was a bit of a mistake.

Are there ways to get around the following?

- posts only go back a week or so -- not to start-of-feed
- no email notification of LJ comments on the feed (which are presumably lost when the posts drop off the back of the feed)
- no way of updating syndication parameters, such as whether to display the whole post or just the top few lines ...

If you've left a comment on something and I never responded, I may not have seen it. (The only way I can think of to get around this is for people to click through and comment on the original non-LJ posts!)

I assumed you wouldn't get comment notifications, which is why I've been clicking through to comment. However that has the opposite problem, I don't get an email when you reply, where I would on LJ.

hadn't thought about the converse of the no-email-notification issue! Hmm ... wondering if I should just give in and copy/paste the posts to LJ: but then what's the point of having an external blog?

Rhetorical, really. The whole idea was to keep something separate from my personal stuff, something that I could point to if anyone ever asked about blogging or book reviews or whatever. And the music blog was set up 'cause I mistakenly thought they would host my files; they won't, but the service via mail2web will ...

It's real pain having my academic blog on Blogspot - it doesn't give me comment notifications and I SOOO mis them..

Blogspot? I get comment notification from mine!
Log into Blogspot, go to Change Settings and enter email notification on the Comments tab ...

Change settings is greyed out - it tells me I can't change settings -- do you know why? I fidn Blogspot really frustrating.. Andres set it up..

either you're not logged in or it's been fiendishly set up not to let you change settings! Prod Andres ... it can be done, promise!
