1. Outcast, by Rosemary Sutcliff (which I had somehow never read before, despite (a) being a Sutcliff fan for ~30 years and (b) owning this book for at least a year

2. L'Oreal Glam Shine Cream -- had almost given up on finding a moisturising lipstick that is tinted, rather than solid colour.

3. Planning the day and sticking to 75% of my plan. (Outcast and shopping took over!)

Outcast is brill. (It is also even more overtly slashy than Eagle of the Ninth.)

Not as slashy as Blood Feud though. "For you, too, there was a Patroclus." How much clearer can she be??

Oh, that takes me back! I haven't read Blood Feud in years - I never owned a copy. Oh yes. Sutcliff can be slash heaven.

The thing is with Sutcliff is that her m/m relationships are utterly convincing portrayals of non-sexual love -- the love between two friends. Like those MagicEye pictures, though, it's sometimes difficult not to see the ... possibilities ... once they've been pointed out.

I suspect the slashiest bit in Outcast is one of the loose ends -- the 'honest-faced' man who really, really wants to buy Beric in the slave market, but hasn't enough money, and apologises directly to Beric. There's a whole other novel waiting to be told there.

Though I do wonder if she had him renamed 'Hyacinthus' deliberately ...

Never occurred to me that she didn't.

Also, you know, just because a relationship is portrayed as non-sexual in a children's book does not mean that it is non-sexual...

Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream lipsticks - tinted and make your lips supple. Shame it tastes so odd.

I knew you'd recommended one. Couldn't remember what it was (and don't think I can get Liz Arden in BH!) Is the packaging as fab as L'Oreal thing?
