Idle speculation ... Narnia

Just writing up Pullman's comments on the Narnia films. I've found one source that says there will be five films. So which two books won't they be doing? why, yes, I am prevaricating. 10K of notes, simmer and reduce to 1500 words ...

As much as I hate to say it, they would probably leave out The Horse and his Boy (and it's my favorite story in some ways, too). I chose the Silver Chair for the other, as the Magician's Nephew has all that about the founding of Narnia, and seems more essential than The Silver Chair. Although they could leave out The Last Battle and I wouldn't mind -- definitely my least favorite.

Not a chance of them filming The Horse and His Boy. I also voted VoDT but actually, it;'s probably The Magician's Nephew as they won't want to go back in time. Wonder how they'll explain Polly in The Last Battle? Cut her out?

My immediate guess is that they will merge some of them into one film rather than leaving any out completely. It's so long since I read them I don't remember what happened in them, though.

I saw something somewhere else that suggested Prince Caspian has elements that might be taken as racist which would make it difficult to adapt without massive changes. And the Last battle is the most didactic which might be off putting?

They HAVE to have the Last Battle. I think H is right and some of the back-story bits from MN will become flashbacks. VODT is a cert - POTC audiences ahoy..

I heard Disney planned to produce seven, but if they do reduce that, I concur with hawkida: they'll merge a couple together.
