Agadir is proud of its modernity, and very brightly lit by night (though it was still possible to star-gaze from the hotel grounds). On the first night, the illuminated Epigram on the hillside -- it reads 'Allah, country, people' -- glowed eerily through the mist as we cavorted in the surf and were soaked by unexpectedly large waves.

Agadir also has some lovely street illuminations. One can't help wondering, though, if they realised that the lights were probably intended as Christmas decorations for an English market town: amid the stars and comets there are very definite snowflakes, an odd contrast to the neon palms that advertise the Casablanca bar.

Sadly, none of my snowflake pictures are especially recognisable. Although I felt very safe in Agadir, and the closest we encountered to trouble was a bunch of teenage boys who very daringly said 'Sex' to us, my instinct is still to be very wary of pausing, or getting anything out of my bag, at night in an urban area.

I'll probably grow out of that, unless I move back to London ...
