Vicarious Revenge

Just now, as I was sitting outside drinking coffee, there was an infernal racket in the hedge. Sam was sitting beside me in case I got lost: he peered intently across the garden.

A squirrel charged out of the hedge with next door's white cat in hot pursuit. After a frantic chase scene, White Cat was victorious. I swear I heard the crunch of bone amid the squealing.

"Shouldn't you be doing that?" I enquired of Sam.

Sam said nothing.

Goodness, I've never seen that happen. I thought squirrels were just a bit too agile to be caught by a cat.

the only way Sam would catch one would be by sitting on it accidentally. Though he did catch a mouse once. In the study.

White Cat is ever so agile. And very loud.

Sam's subcontracted the work out to next door's cat!

Aah, poor ol' Sam's an indoor cat, he's not likely to catch a squirrel. House mouse, possibly. Random insect intruders, almost certainly. But outdoor wildlife? Highly unlikely.

Think yourself lucky - you've surely seen/smelt/heard of the evidence of [livejournal.com profile] ladymoonray's cats' hunting success? Do you really want to be cleaning up small bird/mammal body parts in addition to cat vomit?
