Scanning through email on my old address (now used mainly for LJ comments) I find a Paypal receipt for a great deal of money, for something I never bought. (I will spare you the details, but suffice to say that it is the sort of transaction that would be quite distressing to some.)

Nothing on my actual Paypal history but who can tell, eh?

*sigh*

Ah. I've had a number of those in the last year or so. Not a single one went to my actual Paypal email address (I keep one domain name just for email addresses I modify to indicate who's got them), and strangely enough the link to click on to query the transaction did not go to Paypal either....

Oh, and things expand to fill unavailable time, too. I should be packed and on a train by now.

There are spams which claim to be paypal receipts. I had one recently. They're relatively convincingly put together.

It's all just a phishing attempt. They go for something shocking in the hope that you'll click through for details. That alone confirms your email address is read by a human. They may then even try and get you to enter your user/pass details, depending on how illegal they're willing to be.

If you can see no record of it when you go to paypal.com then I wouldn't worry about it.
