A friend in the States is trying to track down new and back issues of two ST mags: Star Trek UK Magazine and Star Trek Fact Files. He's looked on ebay, not much luck - does anyone know anyone / anywhere? Email me as tamaranth at livejournal if you can help!

As it happens, the Oxfam bookshop near where I work has a huge stack of Star Trek Fact Files. The problem is that they are literally files, and therefore quite bulky (therefore difficult to nab all at once and transport anywhere). I'll check out the prices at lunchtime.

I think he'd be pretty interested - claims he needs 'a lot' of back issues ... let me know pricing and contents and I will check and get back to you!

my next foreign holiday may depend on this!

I didn't check every single one, but they appear to be volumes 1-15 of the Star Trek Fact File (issues 1-91). They're bound in large 'official' loose-leaf binders. Priced at £2.99 each. It's a *lot* of paper.

I should mention that I wouldn't be seen examining this sort of skiffy media stuff in public for just anyone, you know...

That's a great price

There were/are (think the fact files are still going!) several pounds an issue, and the numbers above suggest six issues per volume, so I reckon they are between 1/3rd and 1/6th of the cover price, plus the binders!

It works out at about 50p an issue.

Other than eBay?

Has your friend checked out any online auction websites other than eBay? If not I suggest http://www.100topauctionsites.com/ which lists the top 100 auction sites (I kid you not). A lot of them are devoted to specific areas other than what he's looking for but that still leaves a whole mess of possibilities. Me, I just look at the list and grow slightly faint at the thought of all the mathoms being endlessly circulated via the net.
