I don't post much about clothes. But -- having new job starting Monday yay! -- the need to buy new ones, and the money to do so, coincided.

I was looking for smart, interesting tops to wear with my collection of black/dark grey trouser suits.

o I do not care for pink.
o I do not care for frills.
o I have a cleavage already, so prefer not to accentuate it with crossover/plunge necklines (at least for werk).
o Oh, and I don't do ironing.

Time spent shopping: 3.5 hours
Items purchased: 2*
Amount of hatred for retail outlets in Canary Wharf / Jubilee Place / Lewisham:

*actually 4, but I didn't mean to buy the two cheap jackets from (eek) Primark -- one cream linen, one military-style black denim -- so they don't count.

If it's any help, BHS are currently doing a range of cotton tops with neat v- or round necks and three quarter sleeves in a variety of colours, including some nice greens and blues (also cream and taupe and, yes, pink). No frills, though some have applique details (mostly fairly calm). They fit nicely and do not need ironing. They're a reasonable price, too, mostly around the £16 mark.

I'm probably doing my cred no end of bad by saying this, but BhS are pretty good for top-type things, also underwear (& lighting!). They're also relatively cheap without being tatty/tacky.

My clothes shopping currently seems to fall into two distinct categories:
-- souvenir T-shirts (or other garments) from places we're visiting, providing they're quality garments rather than wear-once-and-throw-away; and
-- skirts on offer in sales, if I see something nice in a window of a shop I happen to be passing.

But shop for clothes specifically? Oh, no, hardly ever....

I have issues buying trousers. I've been known to spend four hours traipsing around trying to buy trousers with no success.
However, I suspect that ZZ9 (http://www.zz9.org) Secretarial duties beside, I shall not be adopting [livejournal.com profile] the_gardener's option, for everyone's sake!!!

You know, I really can't picture you in frilly and pink...

The bane of my existence is orange. Every time I go shopping for clothes it's all orange. Or striped.

[anathema] PikeyMart, er, Primark aren't too bad if you find the better stuff, as you clearly did. [/anathema]

I know several people who rate Primark as supplier of occasional good stuff at stunningly low prices ...
