First, I would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused. ...our inventory is constantly changing based on information we receive directly from our suppliers, and occasionally*, unexpected fluctuations in supply can add time to your order.

We can certainly understand that this was not what you expected when you placed your order. In order to compensate for the inconvenience caused, we would like to give you a 3.00 GBP gift certificate, for use toward your next Amazon.co.uk order.

We pride ourselves in being focused on customers like you who make our company successful and we do want to make sure that you receive your order.

I hope that you will consider this error as just an aberration and give us another chance to serve you better. Now shut up and leave us alone, please."

I made that last sentence up. Meanwhile, have ordered book, secondhand, from their Marketplace: it should be delivered by the weekend.

Hoovering done: shopping next, inc new batteries for keyboard ...

*occasionally?! YOU DO NOT HAVE IT! YOU HAVE NEVER HAD IT!!

three free quid. Let's not go mad! And this for a delay that meant I was working off GIF scans, not a printed book, all through the history-based bit of the novel (instead of buying that second-hand copy in October and having it to hand).
