Food Fetish
Monday, September 6th, 2004 09:31 pmHad a splendid time flogging vanilla pods at the Fine Food Fair. Met a man from Madagascar who talked about the civil war there; an ethical distributor from the East End (currently doing fish and birds but fancies something that's not so heavy; won't touch lobster, because they mate for life); Maggy's charming friend Dave, who is a buyer [MAGIC FREE-SAMPLE WORD] for a company that supplies Jamie Oliver, Marco Pierre White etc, and who regaled me with happy tales of moronic chefs and his recent experience at an album launch at the Torture Garden ("Ah," I interjected, "some of those weirdos may have been my friends"); a nice Belgian who explained why chocolate with lavender oil in it is good for you (it's certainly delicious:
ladymoonray, I have a sample for you, though I don't think it'll keep long ...); a charming Argentinian who told me about maté and quince jelly, and who has a shop in SW18; and several exotic birds, fish, fruits etc, which I devoured.
Feel slightly sick.
Or perhaps that's a result of all the running around I've done today (Lewisham-> Olympia->Holborn->Camden->Lewisham), and have yet to do this evening (called 'housework after hardly being here for two weeks'). At least this way I will lose some weight, since low-carbing seems either not to work for me, or to stop working with a vengeance as soon as I have a tiny wodge of garlic bread, as I did on Saturday.
Will stop prevaricating now and get to it. Though my will to live, let alone launder / tidy / fettle, is somewhat eroded and I find myself looking forward most to the day off, on the sofa, that I will have when I acquire The System of the World. Rarrr!
