I strongly believe that children (and adults) should be protected from anyone who intends to sexually abuse them.

But this seems out of all proportion.

The 'facts', inasfar as I can make them out from that article:

An autistic man, with a criminal record for previous sexual assaults, indecent exposure and manslaughter, has been jailed for life for masturbating on a bus in Lewisham, in full view of a 'horrified' mother and her three young children.

I strongly suggest that the 'horrified' mother moves away from Lewisham, where muggings, stabbings, sexual assaults and murders happen with horrific frequency -- most recently, I couldn't help noticing, right outside the brand new 'Fort Met' police station.

If this goes on I will begin to sound like a Daily Mail reader. Blame the hormones.

that's just appalling - reading the report, the misguided chap didn't even expose himself to the "horrified" mother.

Isn't it just possible he was fancying the mother and not the children? That mother should count herself lucky she doesn't live in Hackney, or anywhere else on the Silverlink line.

so he was actually jailed for life for masturbating? Or because of the manslaughter he committed some time earlier? Nobody should be tried for the same thing twice, allegedly. And 'because he might kill someone' is related to something called 'evidence of propensity': 'he is the sort of person who would do that' becomes 'he did it!'.

Obviously I am of the opinion that all paedophiles should be castrated and hanged, but does a sexual interest in children mean you are a murderer? We cannot jail people for what they might do.
