In what I can only assume is a case of my subconscious trying to make a point, I seem to have turned into a comedy mutant of the kind beloved by the BBC Effects Workshop, circa series 2 of Blake's Seven. I don't know if it's an after-effect of sunburn, a new symptom of the sinus pain I've had for a few days, or a deadly spaceborne plague that will devastate all humanity. Symptoms include swollen inner eyelids, very tender temples, and constant minor nosebleed. Ewwww.

Yes, it is possible that someone broke in and beat me up in my sleep. Amnesty for the culprit, especially if you took 'before' and 'after' photos.

Naturally, it was in this state that I encountered and interacted with my neighbour this evening. To give him his due, he hardly flinched.

Apparently the Evil Feudal Overlords who are trying to extort money from me are unknown to the Inland Revenue, even for PAYE purposes. Surely this is illegal? (And isn't it odd that they still haven't replied to my polite letter asking which leg they intend to stand on clause of the lease I'm breaking?)

As a Comedy Villain, I feel obliged to cackle evilly as I plot their downfall.

Ummm... Not sure. I don't think it is. The company might not have any employees, as they're paid by a different group company, and similarly might be in some wierd corporation tax position that means it doesn't need to file returns.

But it's bloody *wierd*. I'm almost tempted to say that you should order a set of the last financial statements that CH has: they would contain disclosures about those sorts of things.

Not that I distrust your neighbour, but I'm alson wondering -- int he same way that HMCE won't disclose VAT information -- whether the IR will disclose that sort of information?

Well, I'm obliged to send lots of paper to the IR for PAYE purposes, even though It's Only Me and I don't actually pay any ... I certainly don't take what he says as gospel, but it all adds to the sense of shadiness around them.

And surely a reputable company would have replied to my 'explain it and I'll pay you' letter by now?

How would I go about ordering a set of financial statements?

Yeah, but you're paying money over to the IR for yourself. This might be a company with no employees (seems likely, as it's dormant).

Go here (http://www.companieshouse.gov.uk/toolsToHelp/findCompanyInfo.shtml) - the option on the left gices limited free info (might be sufficient),t he one on the right is the pay for one, that gices you a lot more info.

But, yeah, seems deeply shady.

Are you absolutely sure that these people claiming to be your EFLs, actually are? I'm just wondering whether there's some kind of con going on.

Have been unable to check them for Signs, e.g. scaly skin (like mine), facial swelling (like mine), tentacles (er ...) but it is not impossible that they are Other.

Their stationery does give the same address as appears on the service charge, though, and the details match up. You may be right about the con!

It is legal to have the company address registered somewhere else. Why not just TELL them that the company address is actually registered somewhere else, and you merely have post delivered there?

Unless, of course, they have actually contacted Companies House to check.
