Reread in preparation for Wayward Son (review coming up!): my original review from 2016 is here. I think I enjoyed it more this time around, not least because I was very much in the mood for something witty and frivolous and romantic -- and it is all those things, as well as being a sharp interrogation of the Harry Potter canon, and an interesting riff on some of J K Rowling's ideas and themes.

Thanks a lot for this recommendation. It took me a while, but I got round to reading it, and enjoyed it. Very interesting combination of use, subversion and playing with tropes. My copy is now in A's to-read pile.

From your review, I am less convinced I should be reading the sequel. Maybe we should have a chat about that the next time we meet.

I was distinctly underwhelmed by the sequel. I think there is now a third in the series ... may pick it up if it turns cheap at any point.
