Let There Be Rock

The pros of a two-and-a-half hour set by the Drive By Truckers: two-and-a-half hours of excellent Southern country-tinged rock, with plenty of Jack Daniels. Real fire for what they're doing. Wonderfully rough edges and guitar solos that made [livejournal.com profile] ladymoonray splutter.

The cons: there is only so long Red Bull can keep me conscious. And the sound desk didn't need to turn everything up to 11. And I turned into a pumpkin while we were on the DLR.

Am also allergic to Bacardi Breezers, though this is no great loss.

Sorry? Run that past me again - I'm not sure I catch your meaning ...

Probably the ample volume has warped your brane.

There is a point past which additional volume is actually counterproductive: if I can only hear distinct sounds with my fingers in my ears (as opposed to wall o' noise with fingers in normal places, e.g. around Filthy Alcopop) then it is Bad. (Or, possibly, I am old. But this is not really a feasible explanation and I diskard it utterly).

I presume the guitar solos made Kate splutter due to the roughness? She's always been a bit of a purist in such matters. Mind you, having heard the Sisters of Mercy doing Comfortably Numb with a really REALLY bad guitarist, I do get her point sometimes.
