Let There Be Rock
Sunday, February 8th, 2004 11:11 pmHad a fun evening with
ladymoonray, seeing School of Rock, and then dinner at Scuzi.
I wasn't entirely sure what to expect from the film, especially as the majority of the cast are *shudder* children . But ... it rocks. Jack Black is perfect in the role ('failed' rock musician inveigles his way into top school and teaches kids Valuable Lessons, not least that Led Zep / the Ramones / the Clash / the Doors /Hendrix rool). Excellent soundtrack, some neat one-liners -- "It's a concert by the Philharmonia Orchestra. All the greatest classical composers: Beethoven, Mozart, Enya ..." -- and some sterling performances by *shudder* the children.
I was reminded of this line: "The ... kids will ponder on the chordal structure of All Along the Watchtower the way children of yesteryear studied ox box lakes, and who's to say which knowledge is more useless?"
A prize for guessing the source, unless you are one of the three people I have disbarred from the competition. No, I am not telling you who you are!
Scuzi was meant, anyway, as when we walked in they were playing All Right Now. I think the people at the next table thought we were on drugs when we started giggling as soon as Smoke on the Water began ...
American bias mercifully slight. Recommended!
EDIT: worth it just for the blackboard ...
