Last summer I saw a woman knocked off her bike by somebody opening a car door. She was bleeding and shaken: I walked her over to her GP on Newmarket Road.

She's just dropped off a box of chocolates for me and a nice thank-you note, having seen me in town the other day ...

Oh, that's very sweet of her. (Pardon any word play, it wasn't deliberate.)

The one time I was a good samaritan was removing a drunk lying in the road down at Trumpington and walking him home. Since (a) it was dark at the time, and (b) he was under the influence of a lot of beer, I doubt he'd ever have recognised me in the same way.

I presume that in this case, she was too shaken at the time to ask your name, and that she's been keeping an eye out for you since.

I gave her my name and number at the time (mostly so she could let me know she was okay after GP visit) but didn't hear from her -- assumed she'd lost the scrap of paper. Apparently not!

Ah, my assumption was wrong then. So seeing you must have reminded her that though she'd meant to thank you and so on, she'd not got around to it.

Yay!

This gives me hope that I will see again the woman who drove me to the doctor's when I had an asthma attack a few months ago. I got her name but no address and so would still like to thank her properly!
