Thanks to
ladymoonray who very kindly gave me copies of all her photos and permission to upload / post as required, there are some photos of our holiday in Lanzarote over on Flickr.
Sunday: Arrived, with gastric woe due to airline food. (Second major reaction to honey-mustard chicken this year. What is it? Not honey; not mustard; not chicken ...)
Monday: Marina, hotel
Tuesday: Went to the bottom of the sea in a yellow submarine and looked at fish. The water was marvellously clear even at 100ft. Saw many many fish inc. angel shark, various bream and mullet, and Generic Fish. I was struck by the way that air bubbles flatten to lenses, and look like mercury.
Afternoon by pool.
Wednesday: Timanfaya National Park, which I drove to -- on the wrong side of the road -- in our hire car, an open-top Jeep. It was a grey day and the landscape very bleak, though surprisingly green with lichens.
Afternoon on beaches.
Thursday: Beach! And then the cloud started rolling in and we made it back to the hotel just in time to miss being drenched by a once-in-a-decade thunderstorm -- real monsoon / English summer weather -- which drenched us later 'twixt cab and restaurant (Almacen de la Sal, converted salt warehouse, skeletal boat on ceiling, best tuna steak ever).
Friday: our lovely car-hire rep (Tanja) fixed us up with a car-with-lid to replace our mobile paddling pool, and we did a quick tour of the entire island: Caleta del Mojon Blanco (see photo) on north-east coast; Mirador del Rio overlooking Isla de la Graciosa; twisty mountain road from Haria; Cesar Manrique Foundation; El Grifo wine museum -- ticket includes free tasting, mmmm; the lighthouse in Playa Blanca; some food ...
Saturday: Playa Blanca beaches and accidental sunburn. Tapas and wine at Tipico Canario.
Sunday: as Saturday, except without the tapas. And without my camera, which I realised I'd lost about 20 mins before we were due to head to the airport, and about 30 seconds before an Amusing Wardrobe Malfunction.
Excellent holiday, and we're now determined to do the set! Five islands to go ...
