Yesterday morning it was raining in Lewisham. So I went to the beach and ... surfed.
It was her fault! *points*
That and a brisk onshore wind and high tide just as we got to the beach (reducing the need for the usual conversation, which runs along the lines of 'is the tide going in or out?' 'Out' -- and, half an hour later -- 'Hmm, it's getting closer'). And fairly big waves: enough to knock both of us over, and to produce yards of surf (and a mean undertow). And the kite-surfers looked as though they were having amazing fun.
Went and bought a cheap, lurid bodyboard, and we both had a go. Luckily neither of us had a waterproof camera. It is not as easy as it looks (and not as easy as I dimly recall from 15 years ago in California). Fell off a lot. Stayed on for seconds at a time. Sinuses flushed, skin scrubbed. Had brilliant fun and will do it all over again very soon!
Has anyone heard of a 60s female surf band called the Honeys? If so, it's more than Kazaa has. MP3s wanted...
