Walked to pool wearing tracksuit bottoms, a thin jumper and a hoodie: still cold.
Swam 500m.
walked back in torrential rain, am now cold and wet.

The rest of the day will be spent in BED with the last two episodes of Doctor Who, Bear / Monette's Companion to Wolves and possibly Stargate: Continuum if I'm feeling especially slack-brained.

Speaking of slack-brained, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor made me appreciate the existence of fast-forward buttons, if only to skip the excruciating dialogue. That said, Michelle Yeoh and Jet Li rocked -- Isabella Leong worth looking out for in future, too -- and the last 20 mins wasn't bad. Good explosions throughout, with decent fireworks to distract from the 'acting'. Frightful soundtrack though.

Saw The Dark Knight on Weds. It didn't grab me, per se, but it was beautifully shot and the soundtrack was unsettlingly effective -- lots of rumbling bassy crescendo. Heath Ledger's Joker reminded me of Jack Nicholson, though I had actually forgotten that Nicholson played the Joker at all (not sure I ever saw that movie all the way through, just glimpses on Sky) and was thinking of The Shining. Christian Bale still leaves me cold.

Don't forget Babylon 5. They all wear nice warm uniforms - very comforting in this weather.
But how the **** am I supposed to dry my washing or fold up the ******* tent, which I did manage to dry by hanging it all the way down the stairs?

Michelle Yeoh is a goddess (the marquis says so) and we knew she'd be good. Nice to know Jet pulled through, though -- he's an astonishingly nice man, apparently, but he isn't a great actor and villains are a bit out of his usual range.
This house supports Yuen Biao and Yuen Wah for Hollywood stardom (to go with the Hong Kong stardom they already possess).

I must admit I'm relieved the horrible weather isn't constrained to The North - it just arrived at the same time as I did - I was thinking "I didn't remember Edinburgh being THIS COLD in August.."..
